BrainScreen : Personalised nutritional advice to optimise brain function

Your brain is the centre of your intellectual ability which allows you to speak, think and remember. It coordinates and regulates every voluntary and involuntary movement of your body, whether conscious or unconscious. We need it to breathe, to transform foods, to eliminate waste, so that your heart pumps, in order to feel. Physical and mental wellbeing is the result of the optimum functioning of the neurones and of the brain. Behavioural and character disorders and cognitive disorders, in children, adults and the elderly may be largely prevented with the appropriate food personalised for each individual.

What is the BrainScreen for and what does it involve?

It is a study that evaluates the functional and nutritional state of the main bio-chemical parameters involved in neurotransmission in the brain and in the proper functioning of neurones:

• Neurotransmitters. urinary metabolites of catecholamines related with behaviour, cognition, attention and learning:
o Homovanillic acid (Dopamine)
o Methoxy-hydroxy-phenyl glycol (Noradrenaline).
o Indole 3 acetic acidindolacético (Serotonin).

• w3-w6 Fatty acids. Long-chain fatty acids are important to the proper operation of the central nervous system. They play a decisive role in the fluidity of the neuronal membranes, guaranteeing their effectiveness and participating in the physiological regulation of the brain (precursors of the anti-inflammatory cytokines). Numerous clinical studies confirm the relationship between omega 3 fatty acids and the prevalence of mood disorders or cognitive decline.

• Vitamins and Minerals. They are involved at different stages of the synthesis of neuro-transmitters. A deficit may cause neurological or psychiatric disorders, reduce brain power and favour cognitive decline linked to age or neuro-degenerative pathologies. The levels of selenium and folates are linked to the intensity of the neuro-degenerative disorders.
o Ferritin
o Folic acid (B9)
o Cobalamin (B12)
o Zinc and Selenium

• Homocysteine. A known cardiovascular risk factor, it may be a reflection of a deficit in vitamins B6, B9 and B12, indispensable for our mental health. An increase in homocysteine is a risk factor of greater cognitive decline.

Benefits

The results of the BrainScreen allow the doctor to prescribe a treatment with personalised nutritional recommendations, which will ensure the supply of minerals, vitamins and fatty acids which are fundamental to the proper functioning of the brain and the nerves.

Who is a BrainScreen study for?

We recommend a BrainScreen in general for all those persons who wish to optimise their brain function with the help of a nutritional plan adapted and personalised for their needs, but in particular:

• For children and adolescents who show a lack of attention, bad school results, hyperactivity, better learning, behavioural and character disorders.

• As a preventive programme from the age of fifty to reduce the risk of suffering character disorders or cognitive decline (Alzheimer’s , dementias…).

• As a complement to ordinary treatments to obtain greater efficiency or together with successful detoxification (tobacco, psychotropic drugs…)

Obtaining a sample and type of sample

For the conduct of a BrainScreen, blood and urine are required. There is a specific kit. Please ask us.
Collection of urine by the patient.

1. Collect the urine for 12 hours (e.g. collect all urine from 8:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m.).2. Keep the urine refrigerated.
3. Once the process is finalised, shake the container with the urine and fill the bottle with the red top, close it and put it in a transparent protective bag.

Collection of blood by the doctor.
1. Carry out the extraction while fasting.
2. Fill the tubes with whole blood: 2 red tubes, 1 grey tube and two purple tubes.
